Sacred art treasure of the Puy Sumène -
A Treasure of Sacred Arts can be found in the Saint-Georges' church, Ydes "bourg". It is a jewel of the Romanesque art of Auvergne and was built in the 12th century by the Templars. They left a commander's residence in front of the building and today, visitors can appreciate a standard of grace and balance. By strolling around the apse, one can admire engraved capitals and sculptured colonnades. In the former sacristy, a surprise awaits visitors: the treasure of the church - artefacts of worship lent by the 12 communes of the canton of Saignes. An exceptional heritage not to be missed.

Hiking in the region of the peregrine falcon - Nature lovers will find, starting from Saignes, a sign posted route that would make Tom Thumb happy. At the end of the day, when visitors will be on top of the hill they will enjoy a large panorama including the region of Sumène and the Sancy Massif. When going downhill, be quiet because the wild cliff of Milhac is inhabited by the peregrine falcon. A lucky visitor might be able to catch a glimpse of a falcon in flight. After that, you will go back to the forest and its quiet atmosphere. An ideal path to discover during a warm summer day where one will have the possibility to surrender to the joys of roller blading or cycling by following the Green Piste, a former railroad.

The volcano of Auvergne
(Speciality of the Castle of Trancis) Aubergine (egg-plant), Indian spices, a small goat's milk cheese (crottin de Chavignol), honey-lemon sauce and pappadums (Indian pancakes)
Cut the aubergine into dices . Fry the dices in a knob of butter and let it cook with the Indian spices. Prepare the pappadums and a honey-lemon sauce. Let the "crottin" grill under the oven grill until it begins to melt. In a plate, set a bed of aubergine and then lay the hot "crottin" on it. Top the "crottin" with the honey-lemon sauce and scatter some pappadums crumbs for decoration. Enjoy! Good appetite !
