Escape around Aurillac
In the South of Aurillac, the region of Arpajon-sur-Cère stretches between the region of the Châtaigneraie, which covers the Southwest of the department and the Carladès, this beautiful region where the queen Margot rode. This territory invites visitors to discover its natural ressources. One of the most beautiful villages of France, called Salers, located 25 miles (40km) North of Aurillac, is also worth a visit.

The wealth of Arpajon-sur-Cère - In Arpajon-sur-Cère, the river is an ideal guide for visitors. Dominating the valley, the castle of Conros, in the heart of Cantal, on the Road of Auvergne's castles (Route des châteaux d'Auvergne), stands the magnificent loop of the Cère river. In this 9 century-old building, visitors will admire a white sarcophagus from the 5th century and enjoy the remarkable ornamentation of the park. The Mill of Cère, built in the 13th century still reminds visitors that the hydrological energy was widely used here, for dyeing, carding and milling. Come to see the demonstrations of functionning that are proposed!

From Carlat to Vézac... - In the region of Carladès, countryside paths overhang gentle undulations and offer great hikes. From Carlat, several kilometers away from Arpajon-sur-Cère, in Vézac, take the footpaths that will lead you to the foot of the remarkable church of Cros-de-Ronesque and the castle of Cropières, near Raulhac, a town which offers rusticity and architectural elegance. While hiking, visitors will appreciate breathtaking landscapes, such as a 360° panorama at the top of the rock of Carlat.

The rustic golf of Vézac - This 9-hole golf course which welcomes 1200 players every year proposes cheap fares to democratize this too little known sport. Here, players benefit from a convivial and relaxed atmosphere in nice surroundings.

Visitors will peacefully enjoy the club's indoor and outdoor equipment.

The village of Salers -
Here, rich magistrate families built magnificent residences. These are now offering this exceptional whole ensemble that can nowadays be admired (House of Bailliage, - of Flogeac, - Laronade, - Lafarge, - Bertrandy …) These town houses from the 15th and the 16th centuries, built in volcanic stones with their heavy lauze rooves, reflect the charm and the elegance of the Renaissance.

The bilberry, queen of the Massif Central -

Apart from in the Vosges (a French massif), the Massif Central is the only other region where bilberry reigns. Every cook in Cantal knows it. You can go picking, equipped with a comb, from August to September depending on the weather and the altitude. Even if picking can be slightly tedious, visitors will quickly forget their efforts while eating a delicious pie or a good "fromage frais" with a handful of bilberries!
