A vineyard village not to be missed - With its red tiles and its warm and dry climate, the village reminds you of the Mediterranean region. Trace of its former fort, and its Romanesque church draws the attention of the visitors. However it is thanks to the wine that this village is famous in the region. On this unique soil at the foot of the volcanoes stretches a true vineyard, with Boudes as its economical centre. The wine of Boudes and the others Côtes d'Auvergne where already shipped to Paris via the Loire river through the canal of Briare.

The Valley of the Saints (Vallée des Saints) - Boudes has another surprise for the walker. Near the village on the colder hillside at the opposite of the vines, water has sculpted pyramids of a height varying from 33ft (10m) to 100ft (30m). They are the chimneys of the fairies (cheminées des fées) made of red clay and resulting from the stone erosion during the tertiary. If you have a bit of imagination, these giant sentries will suggest a procession of monks, this is why the valley bears this name.

A small hike in the Far West - In order to discover the Valley of the Saints, one of the most surprising sites of Auvergne, you only have to follow the streams that are still eroding the feet of the columns. Then, following the footpaths a bit further, you will reach a crest which offers an astonishing view over these stone giants. It is a sensation close to the site of the "Provençal Colorado", these famous ochre quarries of the Luberon.
