The House of Gergovie -
Reading the Astérix comics is not the only way to know all the details of the most well-known battles against the Romans. The House of Gergovie, located on the scene of the crime, invites you to discover the whole story with a film which recounts the battle between Vercingétorix and Caesar. It is the best solution to know why the Gauls who were beaten earlier in Bourges, forced the invincible roman troops to withdraw.




The Plateau of Gergovie, a land blessed by the gods - Humans settled a long time ago on this land known for its fertility. The fact that the people of Auvergne (the "Arvernes") built there one of their main fortresses is not the only reason why history lovers are fond of the Plateau of Gergovie. It is especially known as the supposed site of the last large victory of the Gauls against the Romans, of Vercingétorix against Caesar, which took place in 52BC. The piles of stones which tell this story are not the only attraction of this place. From this plateau, which is easily accessible by road, you will enjoy a wonderful view of Clermont-Ferrand and the chain of the Puys, it is also perfect for short walks or hikes. Kite flying adepts gather on this well-known windy spot and their improvised show is pleasing to the eyes. From the Plateau of Gergovie to the Puy of Peyronère, there is only one step, which will lead you from the battle of Gergovie to the gate of the chain of the Puys and its old medieval dwellings. Following a loop starting from the town of Saint-Amand and going through the villages of Saint-Saturnin and Saint-Sandoux, that are perched between 2 puys, you will be surprised by remarkable panoramas and an exceptional heritage. The hikers will never forget the views overhanging the valley of the Monne and of the Comté, they will also be appealed by the renowned Romanesque church and the imposing fortress of the village of Saint-Saturnin. Fillet of braised John Dory with a cabbage compote with bacon

  • Preparation time : 20mn
  • Cooking time :15mn
  • 4 fillets of John Dory
  • 1 green cabbage
  • 7 oz of diced bacon
  • 0,4 oz of juniper berries
  • 1 teaspoon of gin
  • 0,2 oz of butter
  • olive oil
  • salt and pepper

Blanch the leaves of the cabbage, refresh them. Remove the midribs and cut them into thin slices. Put butter and oil into a stewing pan and warm it up. Add the cabbage, the juniper berries, a teaspoon of gin and the diced bacon. Stir regularly.

Slightly fry the fillets of John Dory and put them in the stew pot with the cabbage.
Close the stew pot and let it cook for 6 min.
Add salt and pepper. Serve with a dash of olive oil.
