   MASSIF CENTRAL > PUY-DE-DÔME > Zone 2

Between Vichy and Clermont-Ferrand, Randan stretches over the hills which separate the Limagne and the Allier valley, it is the transition between the land of plains and the land of heights. Nested in the heart of vast wooded stretches, Randan and its surroundings are a source of a thousand natural pleasures.

Stone treasures - In the heart of the Puy-de-Dôme, the royal domain of Randan (le domaine royal de Randan) and its medieval castle have been neglected for 70 years. However, a spring cleaning has been done for the tourists. The restoration of this listed historcal monument should allow it to welcome its furniture collection, a witness of the House of Orléans (la Maison d’Orléans). In the meantime, visitors will be able to appreciate its park and its wonderful architecture. This historical place is surrounded by local treasures, such as the frescoes of the Romanesque church of Jussat or the half-timbered dove cots, which are so common in the Limagne region. Another good example of these treasures is the built-on piles of constructions of Villeneuve-les-Cerfs.

A wander through the trees - The large Limagne of Auvergne is quite an undulating and wooded region around Randan. The village is located on a hill on the border of the deep forest of Montpensier. This village is a perfect starting point for a walk through ancient oak underwood which reminds the nearby forest of Tronçais in the Bourbonnais boscage.

A generous nature - The forests of Randan and Montpensier are abounding in game, in fact there is as much big game as walkers, these forests are the dream country for hunters. As a land of diversity, the region of Randan is near the Allier valley, it is thus propitious to all kinds of fishing activities, especially on the banks of the pond of Nemours (Etang de Nemours).

The Prasline of Randan, the pleasure of the gourmets - When you associate water, almonds and sugar, you get the real star of this region†: the Prasline of Randan. It was created in the 19th century to satisfy the appetite of the Duke of Praslin’s daughter, this pink jewel has survived through the centuries to become internationally famous. It is so well-known that the Tacots Randonnais (a local group of ancient car’s collectors) have dedicated a feast called the Prasline Tour which will take place this year on the 15th of June. You cannot miss the Prasline of Randan since its packaging is stamped with a picture of the castle of Randan. And anyway, the unforgettable taste of the Prasline Brioche will lead you to it.
